RIDGEWAY, WI – The filing deadline for the office of Village President and the office of Trustee 3 at the 2021 Spring Election has been extended 72 hours. Any qualified persons interested in running for these offices may file the necessary documents to run no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021.
The reason for the extension is that the incumbent Village President, Jon Steen, did not file a Notification of Noncandidacy form, which was due December 28. Steen, who has served as Village President since April 2007, did not file papers to run for the office by today’s filing deadline.
Incumbent Trustee 3, Michele Casper, filed the necessary paperwork to run for the office of Village President but her Trustee 3 position remains eligible for the extension of the filing deadline.
Wisconsin law provides that the filing deadline is extended if an incumbent chooses not to run for the position he or she currently holds and does not file a Notification of Noncandidacy form. If an incumbent officeholder does not file the Notification of Noncandidacy and does not submit the required documents for ballot access by the filing deadline, all candidates for that office (other than the incumbent) may submit ballot access documents no later than 72 hours after the original filing deadline.
Persons who wish to run for this office may do so by filing a Campaign Registration Statement (CF-1), Declaration of Candidacy (EL-162), and at least 20 signatures of qualified voters of the Village of Ridgeway on Form EL-169, no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 in the office of the Village of Ridgeway Clerk.
Documents are available on the village website: https://villageofridgeway.com/election-information/how-to-run-for-office/ or at the Village Hall/Fire Station.
